Born in Ottawa, Canada, to a Lebanese mother and a Finnish father, Anastasia Nysten grew up in
Finland, France and spent most of her later childhood in Lebanon, where she received her Masters
degree in industrial design from ALBA (Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts).
Throughout her professional experience, Nysten has developed both design and publishing worlds
parallelly after joining her family’s publishing company in 2009, City News Publishing and Selections
Publishing House, while she completed her studies. She received her Masters degree in Industrial Design
from ALBA (Academie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts) in Beirut, Lebanon, after which she worked at Karen
Chekerdjian design studio. After Graduation she moved to London to be part of lighting designer Michael
Anastassiades’ team.
Nysten developed an architecture and design magazine, Le Cercle, created on behalf of an international,
high-end, multi-brand, furniture company based in Lebanon by the same name.
In 2015, she was assigned the role of editor-in-chief/creative director of Selections Magazine, an Arts &
Culture publication belonging to the same group with head office in Dubai, UAE.
Upon moving to Dubai in 2015, she founded her design studio in which she continues to experiment with
objects and spaces influenced by the multiple cultures she’s been exposed to growing up, and the
curiosity she has developed towards cultural exploration and local craftsmanship. Her work draws
inspiration from many sources, marrying artisanal techniques and industrial production while involving
spontaneity in her process. Her semi-sedentary impulse has driven her to live between Beirut, Dubai and
recently Madrid, Spain.
Her recent exhibitions include Beirut Design Fair (Talent Award 2017), Maison & Objet (Talent Award
2018), Galerie Bensimon Paris, Spazio Rossana Orlandi Milan, Athr Gallery KSA, House of Today Design
Biennial, Smo Gallery and Over The Counter Beirut. Her proposal for a public bench commissioned by
the Pharaon Group has been revealed in the iconic Downtown Beirut Nejmeh Square in 2019.
